Simon Ortiz has been a poet and writer for thirty years. His
most recent books are From Sand Creek, Men on the Moon, and After and
Before the Lightning. He has taught extensively in Native American studies,
literature, and creative writing. In his teaching and residencies, he has
always insisted on the importance and significance of Native American creative expression. He has held
positions as Interpreter and 1st Lt. Governor of Acoma Pueblo, his community and
tribe in New Mexico. Currently he is associated with the Telluride
Institute and the ArtsReach project in southern Arizona. His work continues to focus on issues, concerns, and
responsibilities Native Americans must have for their land, culture, and
community. |
